Privacy Policy

Effective September 28, 2026

FYI Tales (fyitales.com) is operated by GTStudios LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email the owl: onceuponatime@fyitales.com.

The short version

  • You can read every tale without an account. We don’t sell anything directly on this site and never ask for payment details.
  • We use Google Analytics to see which tales people read, and a few other standard services (fonts, share buttons, Amazon links) described below.
  • If you comment or email us, we use what you send only to reply, moderate, and run the site.
  • We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t run ads or advertising trackers.
  • FYI Tales is for curious families, but the site itself is meant for grown-ups. Kids’ stories and drawings should come to us from a parent or guardian.

Information we collect

When you browse the site

Like most websites, our servers and security software automatically record technical information for each visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the referring page, and the date and time. We use this to deliver pages, keep the site secure (including blocking spam and attacks), and fix problems.

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — for example, which tales are popular, roughly where visitors are (country or city level), and how people found us. Google Analytics sets cookies on your device when a page loads. We look at this information in aggregate; we don’t use it to identify you.

Our catalog software (WooCommerce) also sets first-party cookies that record how you arrived at the site (for example, from a search engine or a link). This helps us understand which sources send readers our way.

When you leave a comment

If you comment on a tale, we collect the name, email address, and website (if any) you enter, your comment, and your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. Your email address is never published. Spam checks run on our own server. An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you have a profile picture there; Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy. Comment forms may also save your name and email in a cookie on your device so you don’t have to retype them.

When you email us

If you write to onceuponatime@fyitales.com — with a question, a correction, a story idea, or a drawing for a Your Tales storybook — we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send. We use it only to reply to you, act on your request, and, if you ask us to, work on your book.

Children’s privacy

Our tales are family-friendly and made to be shared with kids, but this website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and children should not post comments or email us themselves.

If your child would like their drawing turned into a Your Tales storybook, please send it from your own (parent or guardian) email address. We only need the artwork and a first name or nickname — please don’t include your child’s full name, school, address, or photos of your child. We use submissions only to reply to you and, with your permission, to create the book, and we’ll delete them whenever you ask.

If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent’s consent, email onceuponatime@fyitales.com and we will delete it.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored in your browser. We use them for analytics (Google Analytics), to remember comment details, to remember your cookie choices, and to record how you arrived at the site. You can review and change your choices at any time using the Preferences button on our cookie banner, and read more in our Cookie Policy. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with Google’s browser add-on.

Other services we use

  • Google Analytics (Google) — site analytics, as described above. Google’s privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts (Google) — our typefaces load from Google’s servers, so your browser shares your IP address with Google when a page loads.
  • AddToAny — powers our share buttons. If you use them, the social network or app you share to receives the page you’re sharing, under its own privacy policy.
  • Amazon Associates — some links go to Amazon, and we earn from qualifying purchases (see our Affiliate Disclosure). If you click through, Amazon may use cookies to record that you came from FYI Tales. Anything you buy is handled entirely by Amazon under its privacy policy; we only see aggregate commission reports, never who bought what.
  • Links to other sites — tales link to sources such as Wikipedia and to our social media pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
  • Service providers — our web hosting, security, backup, and email-delivery providers process information on our behalf only to run the site.

How we use and share information

We use the information above to run and improve FYI Tales, respond to you, moderate comments, keep the site secure, and comply with the law. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising. We share it only with the service providers described above, when required by law or to protect our rights and our readers, or as part of a business transfer (for example, if FYI Tales were sold), in which case this policy would continue to apply to information collected under it.

How long we keep it

Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request and our ongoing conversation. Comments and their details are kept for as long as the comment is on the site. Server and security logs are kept for a limited period for security purposes. Google Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings and is used only in aggregate. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you — including comments and emails — by writing to onceuponatime@fyitales.com. Depending on where you live (for example, California, other U.S. states with privacy laws, the UK, or the EU), you may have additional rights, and we will honor requests as the law in your location requires. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

Security and where information is stored

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), security software, and regular backups, but no website can guarantee perfect security. FYI Tales is run from the United States, and information is processed and stored in the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top.
